Scodix continues to extend the range of enhancements its machines offer into new realms such as applying foil on foil

A selection of some of the more recent hardware product introductions into the digital finishing market.

Whether it is to add value through embellishment or to streamline operations there have been lots of technological developments in finishing equipment in the past year. Trying to keep on top of such a diverse sector can be a tall order. To compile this list we asked finishing vendors to submit what they thought were the key products introduced into their ranges over the past 12 months. The listing is compiled alphabetically by UK dealer name.

Atech

Wide format finishing specialist Atech represents a number of vendors in the UK market, including Italian cutting specialist Elitron. At drupa the firm unveiled its latest machine the Kombo TAV-R, a 2 x 3.2 m pallet to pallet cutting and creasing automated finishing system for the FSDU, cardboard engineering and graphics industries.

Features include automatic loading and of incoming pallet of printed panels, which are scanned to load job parameters. Cameras overhead and underneath read alignment of each panel. The entire sheet is loaded, cut and creased using the two independent gantries and cutting heads, with a combined speed of up to 102 m/min. A vacuum head automatically unloads cut sheets including waste, which can be separated just by lifting away with no tags to cut, saving operator time. It can be teamed with the Bürkle Liquid Coater for companies who need high quality coated output.

Conversion UK

Conversion UK represents Highcon and Scodix. Having both debuted at drupa 2012, four years on they have succeeded in establishing themselves and disrupting the markets they serve.

At this year’s show Highcon launched three systems: the top of the range Beam taking B1 digital cutting and creasing into mainstream production with up to 5,000 sheets per hour, the B2 Pulse offering a smaller footprint at an affordable price and the third generation of its original Euclid digital cutting and creasing machine with new capabilities including variable data cutting and 3D modelling.

Scodix has come a long way from offering just sense, a digital version of spot UV varnish, with a range of nine special effects in its line up including metallics, foiling, cast & cure, braille and variable data. At drupa it launched the E106, a B1 unit capable of up to 4000 sph. Like the Ultra Pro, the E106 can be fitted with a foiling system (developed with Compact Foilers). Thanks to the accuracy and flexibility of the system it can produce effects such as foil on foil that would be impossible conventionally.

Duplo

It’s been a bumper year for Duplo with five significant launches across its range including the iSaddle2, iSaddle Pro, PFi Di-Cut 300, 350R Pro In-line Booklet System and the DC-646i/DC-646i PRO.
