The Impika iGen with Mitsubishi Jetscript combination is compared to the ISO uncoated colour space, showing its wider gamut

‘White space marketing’ on envelopes can be a key to powerful attention grabbing direct mail. To make brand colours and logos stand out on the doormat, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper has developed a new inkjet paper specifically for this application.

In today’s digital media world, the envelope is more than ever the medium of choice to address the customer with selective advertising and to convey a marketing message. Printed envelopes can be eye-catching and really grab the attention of the recipient.

In targeted campaigns, individualised one-toone marketing is the key for better marketing success, and the envelope might even be the deciding factor as to whether or not the recipient will open the mail piece. Every plain white envelope is now considered to be a waste of valuable advertising space.

According to research group Nielsen, mailings using printed envelopes show a significantly higher recall rate: 36% versus 5% for digital mailings. For this reason, many of the latest mail solution systems installed in the market have been fitted with an inkjet printing unit, which is used for individualisation of the envelopes.

In high quality advertising campaigns, precise colour reproduction is most important, as colours must be reproduced on every end product (letter or card and envelope) accurately and consistently and according to the colours of logos and graphic designs which are defined by the company’s corporate design.

To achieve such high quality of print depends not only on the printing system chosen, but also – and in particular – on the paper dedicated to this printing technology. It is for this reason that Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe has developed and is now offering a new coated inkjet paper, JetScript ML 9084, which is specifically designed for this high priority application and provides ‘brilliant results’, the manufacturer claims.

The 87 gsm coated paper has a wide colour gamut and high resolution, which enables accurate reproduction of colour specifications. The reverse side is offset and flexographic printable, and the high whiteness of the coated face supports the best barcode readability. ‘The big advantage of JetScript ML 9084 is the wider colour gamut, especially when compared against treated or uncoated papers.

This is essential for matching strict corporate design specifications of logos and colours,’ commented Ralf Buhl, the company’s marketing manager. JetScript ML 9084 is both de-inkable and FSC Mixed certified. Additional characteristics of the paper, such as its optimal folding and finishing quality, and fast drying time of the ink due to the ink-receiving layer in the coating, make JetScript ML 9084 an ideal choice for applications where white space marketing on envelopes is required.

Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe has a full range of products for commercial inkjet printing suitable for a variety of applications, such as direct mail, envelopes, transactional and transpromo, labelling and book printing, as well as carbonless, thermal and label paper products.
