Mutoh has released its new 64in roll-to-roll water-based UV printer, HydrAton 1642. Initially showcased at drupa, the machine is now available for sale through Mutoh’s distributors and partners in EMEA.
Utilising AquaFuze, Fujifilm’s UV-curable water-based ink technology, the machine meets the highest safety and environmental standards, explained Mutoh. The ink technology is GreenGuard Gold certified; GHS hazard-free; free from Substances of Very High Concern; and has a VOC content of less than 15%. This, said Mutoh, reflects a commitment to safety and sustainable printing without compromising on performance.
Additionally, the company said the HydrAton 1642 operates at lower temperatures (30-50°C) compared to conventional industrial latex and water-based resin ink printers. This ensures compatibility with heat sensitive substrates and moreover also reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions, added Mutoh.
Described as ideal for printing on wallpapers, retail décor, indoor signage, and public space applications, the printer produces a thin and durable printed ink film, offering scratch resistance without requiring an overcoat, that doesn’t need primers or adhesion promoters. This is achieved because of AquaFuze, it said.
Equipped with two AccuFineHD print heads, the HydrAton 1642 delivers ‘improved’ ink placement accuracy, and reduced banding, ensuring details like fine lines and small text are printed accurately. This is possible because of the print head’s increased nozzle row length and high-density nozzle pitch, said Mutoh. Combined with the optimised ink film formation system, which combines a three-way heater, a blower fan, and a UV lamp, prints achieve enhanced durability and superior image quality, the company added.
The machine is powered by Mutoh’s VerteLith RIP software and includes automation features to streamline daily workflows. These are DropMaster 2, which automatically adjusts bi-directional alignment for registration; FeedMaster, which automates media feed correction using built-in sensors; and Media Tracker, which prints and scans barcodes to track remaining media length, reducing material waste.
