Epson has introduced its SureColor S7100, a large-format eco-solvent printer which supports media widths from 300mm to 1626mm (64 inches), with new ink management features, increased ink stability, and output consistency.

Designed to replace the SC-S40600, the new model features an upgraded PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead, which now includes 400 nozzles per channel. This is an increase from 360 in the previous model. This increase, along with greater printhead height, enables faster throughput and wider print passes, resulting in a 23.8% productivity boost in standard 6-pass vinyl printing mode.

A new feature in the updated printer is Epson’s Nozzle Verification Tool (NVT), which continuously checks for blockages and alerts users to potential issues. There is also a thermal sensor that regulates ink and nozzle temperatures, helping to maintain colour consistency over long print runs by minimising variations caused by media heating cycles.

Additionally, a text sharpening module has been introduced to improve the definition of small characters and white text. This is particularly useful for detailed signage applications, explained Epson.

The previous model’s 700ml cartridges have been replaced with 800ml ink packs, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This results in a 91% decrease in plastic waste, as well as an 84% reduction in consumable weight. The printer uses UltraChrome GS3 inks, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of signage materials, including vinyl, banners, and coated textiles.

The company said the SureColor S7100 is aimed at sign makers and print service providers looking for a balance of productivity, print quality, and environmental benefits.
