Norfolk-based print and signage provider Signwaves has boosted its printing capabilities and environmental credentials with two new Nyala flatbed printers from swissQprint.

The new six-colour Nyalas, which include white, varnish, and primer options, were installed in February to replace older swissQprint models. One machine features a 3.2 meter roll-to-roll option, increasing the company’s versatility in production.

Mark Ford, chairman of Signwaves, explained that the decision to upgrade to the new Nyalas was driven by the need for enhanced productivity, quality, and sustainability. The company had initially partnered with swissQprint in 2016, installing an Impala and Nyala to meet growing demand for high-quality digital output. After eight years, Signwaves opted for the latest models to take advantage of improvements in performance.

The new Nyalas operate at a maximum speed of 206sqm/h and deliver up to 35% faster print speeds compared to the predecessors. The advanced print heads and smaller droplet size provide superior print quality with sharper edges, finer lines, and smoother transitions across an expanded colour gamut, explained swissQprint.

The low operating costs and certified energy efficiency of the Nyalas were also a factor in the purchasing decision. Signwaves aims to become carbon neutral by 2030 and generates its own solar power to run its production operations. The installation of the Nyalas supports this vision.

Erskine Stewart, managing director of swissQprint UK, commented: “It’s great to see them choose two new machines and further enhance their strong reputation for high-quality work.”

At the beginning of 2025, swissQprint unveiled its latest generation of flatbeds which Digital Printer covered here and in the February/March 2025 issue.
