Roland DG has introduced the VersaOBJECT MO-180 UV flatbed printer and the latest version of its RIP software, VersaWorks 7, aimed at improving productivity and streamlining digital print workflows.
Positioned as a more compact follow-up to the MO-240, the MO-180 printer offers significant performance improvements. It features dual large-format print heads arranged in a staggered layout, a UV-LED lamp, and enhanced dot control, enabling production colour print speeds of up to 3.43m²/h and combined white and colour printing at 1.45m²/h—over twice as fast as the earlier LEF2-200 model.
The MO-180 supports Roland DG’s EUV5 ink set, which includes orange and red inks in addition to CMYK, Primer, High-Density White and Gloss, expanding the printable colour gamut by around 20%. Gloss ink can also be used to add matte or glossy finishes and create tactile, embossed effects.
Its 458 x 305mm print area sits on a vacuum table that can accommodate substrates up to 204mm thick. Compatible with a wide range of rigid and flexible materials—including plastics, leather, acrylics, wood, glass and metal (with primer)—the printer is designed for broad customisation applications. Optional accessories include an Ionizer Bar for cleaner prints and a rotary axis unit for cylindrical items such as bottles, with diameters from 10mm to 121mm.
A 7-inch colour touchscreen provides access to print and maintenance functions, intended to make the machine user-friendly and reduce downtime.
Alongside the new printer, Roland DG has released VersaWorks 7, a redesigned RIP platform for its printer range. The updated software features a new user interface with a Dark Mode, simplified navigation, and automation tools for faster job setup and reduced operator error.
VersaWorks 7 is compatible with Windows and macOS and uses significantly less memory and storage space than previous versions. It supports file formats including PDF, EPS and PS, and introduces one-click generation of special ink layers such as White, Gloss and Primer. New dithering options improve output at varying resolutions.
The software is integrated with Roland DG Connect for remote monitoring and analytics, and supports PrintAutoMate, a subscription-based feature for batch job automation, aimed at businesses handling custom or e-commerce orders.
Francisco Lozano, Roland DG product manager EMEA, said: “The need for small-to-medium batch production of high-value customised goods is increasing across industries, and with the MO-180 and VersaWorks 7, businesses can now meet this demand with greater efficiency, precision, and creativity.”
