Like arcade games of yore, the Zechini Roby Zero uses a joystick for control
Available through Friedheim International, the Zechini Roby Zero is a casemaker that speeds and simplifies the setup process for different sizes of cover to suit the demands of short-run book printing.
By using a joystick to reset the casemaker for different cover sizes instead of screw adjustment and positioning by eye, the Roby Zero is claimed to be able to change size in 12 seconds. The board positioning device with automated set-up and combined turning and press unit has a maximum mechanical speed of 150 cases per hour, assuming the operator can keep up.
The Roby Zero replaces the Mephisto in Zechini’s range of bookbinding equipment. It has an integrated gluing unit for hot glue which can also be used with PVA glue as well as for lining. It will handle the usual cover materials including laminated or unlaminated paper, photo paper, fabric, padded cardboard and artificial leather. Board sizes between 14 x14 and 70 x 50cm are supported at thicknesses between 1.8 and 3.6mm; turn-in is fixed at 18mm and minimum spine width is 6mm.
