Versafire CP digital press
Southwold-based Micropress Printers is this week installing a Versafire CP digital press to run alongside its Xerox iGen 150.
‘This offers us a back up to the 6pp A4 format which we didn’t have before and, with the EFI RIP, the potential to speed up output and increase the amount of personalisation we handle,’ said James Cross, production director.
‘As a company we handle a broad range of work including books, leaflets, calendars and greetings cards. We decide on a case by case basis which work will go digital and which litho, depending on factors like run length and pagination. Digital is 5-7% of our turnover and is growing steadily,’ Mr Cross added.
The £16 million turnover business includes a publishing arm and operates out of a 50,000sqft factory on a 10 acre site, running 24 hours on weekdays and 12 hours at the weekend.
The company likes to automate, to use digital workflows and to streamline processes as much as possible. Last year Micropress bought a Speedmaster XL 75-5, a Stahlfolder KH 82 and a Polar Autotrim cutting line from Heidelberg. Once installed, the Versafire will operate on a flexible day shift.
