Core Image will install a Heidelberg Stahlfolder Ti52 in 2018

East Kilbride, Glasgow-based printer Core Image has purchased a Heidelberg Stahlfolder Ti52 to increase its range of folds and bring to an end a relentless period of investment.

This year alone the company has added a Versafire CV digital press, an HP latex machine and Horizon StitchLiner 5500 booklet maker and in the previous two years it had added a Speedmaster SM 52-5+L with AxisControl spectral measurement, a Suprasetter and comprehensive Prinect workflows. Now, out goes a “tired” UFO and in comes an industrial level folder, Heidelberg’s Ti52 buckle folder which can handle stocks of 40 to 250gsm

‘This will be our first Stahlfolder but the Ti52 model is needed now to increase our range of folds, to give us higher productivity and to allow us to crease and fold in one pass, cutting out an offline operation and increasing the finished quality,’ said Davy Hunter, managing director. ‘Creasing is becoming important for digital work where sometimes the process takes the moisture out of paper.’

The folder will be delivered in January, marking completion of a front to back upgrade that sets the 25-year-old company on its next growth path.

‘Business has been good and it is no use investing in great presses and leaving folding behind,’ continued Mr Hunter. ‘It completes our current large-scale investment period. From here on we will stagger investment but seeing all this new kit coming in has been great for staff morale and for our customers who can be even more confident in the quality and response we provide.’
