The Ci6x/ColorScout A+ combination can be used to measure colour on samples that don’t work well with standard spectrophotometers

X-Rite, Pantone and ColorPartner have joined forces to help automate colour measurement and management for industrial inkjet applications.

The three companies have produced a solution that combines the ColorPartner ColorScout A+ automated colour measurement table and X-Rite’s Ci6x family of sphere spectrophotometers, allowing industrial printers to accurately measure the colour of metallic, wood, plastic, ceramic and textured materials. The system overcomes the limitations of colour measurement devices used in graphic arts applications, which are designed for smooth or matt surfaces but do not perform well with textured or reflective materials.

‘Inkjet technology makes it possible to print on a wide variety of materials, opening up new opportunities to industrial and commercial printers from fast fashion to flooring to packaging to home décor,’ said Jan Keller, vice president, X-Rite. ‘With higher material costs, printers cannot risk colour errors that may be inherent in a manual measuring process. The Ci6x/ColorScout A+ solution eliminates these potential errors and can quickly and easily pay for itself by ensuring less waste due to colour issues, increasing profitability and speeding time to market for brand owners and manufacturers alike.”

The Ci6x/ColorScout A+ solution is A3+ size, accommodating materials up to 515 x 310mm and up to 30mm thick. Larger formats are also available and there is an option to handle samples up to 60mm thick. The Ci6X/ColorScout A+ combination will be made available through a variety of RIP manufacturers that support industrial inkjet output devices.
