Kodak has announced enhanced connectivity between its Prinergy workflow and digital front ends from EFI and HP, intended to increase efficiency in mixed digital and analogue printing sites.

Version 8.1 of Prinergy supports bi-directional communications with digital front ends (DFEs) from HP and EFI’s Fiery range, used to drive a wide range of digital presses from several manufacturers. This allows operators to make digital print decisions from within the Prinergy workflow based on real-time press information, thanks to the Digital Job Ticket Editor component of the Kodak workflow; Kodak claims this is an industry first.

Prinergy 8.1 also introduces a preset feature to streamline production by removing touch points. Users can define, save and re-use print product specifications tailored to specific DFEs driving Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Landa and Komori digital presses, in addition to HP and other Fiery-driven models.

‘Prinergy Workflow 8.1 will provide our customers with the widest choice when connecting to a digital device,’ said Allan Brown, vice president and general manager of Kodak’s Unified Workflow Solutions. ‘By fully leveraging their digital equipment, printers will be able to increase efficiency and open the door for additional growth opportunities.’
