Postal packaging company Blake has acquired an envelope manufacturing plant in Telford as part of its objective to strengthen UK-based manufacturing.
Factors that influenced the investment included supporting the resurgence of UK-based manufacturing to enable economic growth and the currently challenging economic climate because of the Brexit vote and its subsequent impact – currency fluctuations due to the weakness of the pound and the possibility of increased import duties and customs border delays.
The acquisition will help the business to produce an additional 300 million envelopes per year, on top of the two billion envelopes it currently sells annually, meeting service demands for bespoke envelope manufacture.
‘This new plant, coupled with our sophisticated digital print production, means we can now cater to quantities from 50 to 5 million bespoke printed envelopes,’ explained Michael Barter, managing director. ‘We’ve seen an increasing demand from our customers for high quality printed mailing wallets produced in the UK, to flexible order quantities with a fast delivery. Providing an adaptable, relevant service is something that’s always been at the heart of our strategic objectives. So, this latest acquisition ensures we’re in a strong position to meet the needs of our customers, in what is an increasingly challenging time.’
