Duplo DuSense DDC-810

The DuSense DDC-810 is a new “sensory” coater from Duplo that the company says offers printers a cost-effective way to embellish short-run digital print with special effects.

In its initial release, the DuSense offers gloss coating effects similar to spot UV, but Duplo UK marketing manager Sarah Crumpler says ‘the name “sensory coating” has been chosen as further options for other effects will be added in time’.

Artwork is prepared in the same way as for spot UV, via an additional layer in the artwork file whose greyscale value denotes the required thickness of coating. The coater works with print produced on HP Indigo presses, offset presses or other digital presses using coated stocks.

The DuSense uses 600dpi printheads, and Duplo says it can handle areas containing both heavy solids and fine detail in the same pass. It uses the sheet feeder from the DC-746 cutter/creaser and can coat up to 1080 B3 sheets per hour. Duplo has developed the consumables for the unit.

‘This is a revolutionary new product from Duplo,’ said Peter Jolly, managing director of Duplo UK. ‘We believe that the Duplo DuSense DDC-810 is exactly what digital printers have been looking for: not only does it produce beautiful printed products, but it does so with entry and running costs that are hugely competitive. It will be a great asset to any digital print business.’

Launched at DuploFest, the DuSense DDC-810 is now available in the UK and has already been installed by Leicester-based Flexpress.

The new coater will have its international unveiling at IPEX, held at the NEC, Birmingham, from 31 October to 3 November 2017.
