Color-Logic’s Design Suite allows fully variable data in metallic colours, not just CMYK

Using digital print and variable data metallic printing, Color-Logic offers a new options in personalisation and anti-counterfeiting security print.

When printing onto a metallic substrate, designers have previously had to create a manual white ink separation to mask out areas of the job that should be printed in CMYK only – a method of separation that restricts users to using variable text or graphics in CMYK only.

Color-Logic’s Design Suite, when used with variable data composition software like XMPie or HP Smart Stream Designer, allows brands to implement basic anti-counterfeiting features in metallic inks. By eliminating the need for manual white ink masking, any label, carton, shrink sleeve, coupon or marketing piece printed on a reflective substrate can now include unique variable data metallic features.

The process can produce unlimited metallic colours and so be used to generate complex metallic graduations to produce features such as a metallic security logo with a tactile finish or a metallic micro-weave using graduated colours.
