The BPIF took apprentices to Jaguar Land Rover’s Business Partnership Centre in Solihull

A visit to Jaguar Land Rover marked part of this year’s National Apprenticeship week for the BPIF, which is holding a free webinar regarding changes to apprenticeships for print businesses.

On 6 March, the BPIF took a number of apprentices to Jaguar Land Rover’s Business Partnership Centre in Solihull. The day consisted of a behind the scenes guided tour of the facility and a variety of learning activities focused around lean manufacturing processes.

‘I really enjoyed learning and seeing how a different type of business from the one I work in operates and how the processes involved in car manufacturing can relate similarly to the way the printing industry operates,’ commented Alice Murray of Hunts and a BPIF Apprentice Council member.

A group of BPIF apprentices also took part in a letter press workshop at St Brides on 7 March and the Apprentice Council produced and mailed the second edition of the Apprentice Newsletter, printed by Ian Wilton at Oxuniprint.

On Thursday 23 March at 10am the BPIF will be hosting a free webinar on changes to apprenticeships and the impact this could have on print businesses come April. (In addition to the levy percentage and pay bill threshold, there are also changes to funding for apprenticeships, the process for paying for apprenticeships, the structure of the apprenticeships themselves, and incentive payments).
