Irish paper merchant Swan Paper has been acquired by Antalis.

Antalis will retain the Swan brand, creating a new Swan Paper division which will be headed up by Swan Paper CFO, Brian McArdle, reporting to Eoin Heagney, managing director of Antalis Ireland. The business will continue to operate from its base in Baldoyle, Dublin and all 13 current employees will transfer over to Antalis, which employs 32 people at its Dublin head office.

‘I am incredibly proud to have built the business into the company it is today, but feel it is now time to take a step back from day-to-day operations,’ commented Tony Swan, CEO. ‘I believe that Antalis is the right business partner to take the company forward.

‘This is an incredibly exciting development for Antalis which will see us significantly increase the size of our business in Ireland,’ said Mr Heagney. Everyone involved is looking forward to bringing together our two businesses.’

Antalis has also commissioned 81 new DAF Euro VI curtain-sided vehicles in a £5m investment to modernise its 160-strong fleet which makes nearly 800,000 deliveries to customers across the UK and Ireland every year. The trucks will be contract hired as part of a seven-year deal with commercial fleet services partner Fraikin.

‘The new vehicles will modernise our existing fleet and ensure that our logistics operation is well-placed to support the changing needs of a dynamic and growing business,’ said David Hunter, Antalis regional managing director for UK, Ireland and Southern Africa.
