The Epson SC-P5000

Epson has rounded out its SureColor SC-P range of inkjet proofing and fine art printers with a 17″ model the SC-P5000.

The 10-colour machine uses the same UltraChrome HDX pigmented inks as the 24″ SC-P7000 and 44″ SC-P9000, first announced in September 2015, making it easier to ensure consistency across multiple devices and locations.

Two versions are available one with a light black ink for fine art and photographic applications and one using violet ink for proofing. When using the violet ink the printer is claimed to match 99% of Pantone solid coated colours, making it suitable for proofing litho and flexo processes and packaging applications.

The SC-P5000 replaces the Stylus Pro 4900 and will cost the same. The base model is £1,795 while the SpectroProofer version incorporating the X-Rite developed ILS30 colorimeter costs £2,770.

In addition to the enhanced colour gamut of the HDX inks, the combination of Epson’s PrecisionCore printhead and better dust sealing of the unit is claimed to improve reliability by 50 times.
