Domino’s K630i booklet production line produces both book blocks and multi-page booklets
Ashford Colour Press has become the first UK based book printer to install a Domino K630i inkjet press.
The Gosport-based firm wanted a system that would allow it to print monochrome work, which makes up one third of its output, more cost effectively. The K630i ticked all the important boxes: quality of output, running speed, ease of operation and compact footprint.
Combined with Hunkeler’s double plow folder and cutting module, the system converts paper rolls into two different sized book blocks. The Ibis Smart Binder can produce variable multi-page saddle stitched booklets of up to 200 pages, at the rate of up to 7,000 per hour.
The Domino K630i monochrome compact single-engine inkjetpress has production speeds of up to 150m/min. For a 3-up imposition the line can produce up to 1.4bn pages per annum, which for an average 300-page book equates to 4.6m books per annum.
A system configured like that ordered by Ashford Colour Press, which combines Hunkeler and Ibis equipment to produce stitched booklets and book blocks, will be shown by Domino at Hunkeler Innovationdays.
‘We are delighted that this solution has become part of the Domino product offering and have high expectations for the reception it will get at Hunkeler Innovationdays,’ said Domino product manager Bryan Palphreyman.
The Hunkler Innovationdays take place 20-23 February 2017 at Messe Lucerne.
