Kirsty Donald and  Damian Jacobs were with presented their awards by Mark Jones, Roland DG’s Head of RolandCare

 

Two entrants were jointly named Roland DG Young Signmaker of the Year at the annual BSGA Sign Awards.

The winners, Damian Jacobs of Allen Signs and Kirsty Donald of Owen Pilling Graphics, received the award for outstanding progress in their careers to date.

The judges commented that Damian, 24, had taken on responsibility for scheduling and the management of difficult production and installation jobs at Allen Signs, including one giant roll-out project to 150 sites. Kirsty, 22 was praised by the judges for being the first candidate to achieve a formal Modern Apprenticeship in Sign Making.

‘Participating in the BSGA awards not only cements our position as investors in the future of the sign industry, but also gives us a chance to reward the next generation of sign makers,’ commented Mark Jones, Head of RolandCare.

‘All the shortlisted candidates had completed apprenticeships and, without exception, are now making real contributions to the businesses they work in,’ said David Catanach of the BSGA. ‘They demonstrate just how important apprenticeships are in the sign industry and we hope that their example will encourage even more sign businesses to become involved in the apprenticeship scheme.’
