Featuring the names of 3,500 authors published by Hachette UK since 1978, the mural at Carmelite House will grow each year
Book publisher Hachette UK now has a long mural comprising 3,500 author names in its new office, produced by Signbox.
The mural was commissioned to celebrate the publishing companies that comprise Hachette UK coming together for the first time in new premises, Carmelite House on the River Thames. ‘It has been a joy working with The Graphic History Company, with artist Kate Forrester, and with Signbox who handled the production and installation aspects of the project,’ revealed Clare Harington, Hachette UK’s communications director.
The company selected 3,500 of its 55,00 authors, whose names were arranged chronologically and hand-drawn by illustrator Kate Forrester, before being printed by Signbox, with the work completed in just over two weekends.
‘We printed [the mural] using our HP Latex 360 printers, on Class O fire retardant LG 3880 high tack vinyl – approximately 450 linear metres of it in total,’ said Mark Bartlett, managing director at Signbox. ‘The vinyl was then matt laminated, CAD-cut and weeded for application.
‘Choosing the right products for adhesion to acid-etched glass and preparing the surfaces was key to a successful delivery,’ Mr Bartlett added.
