Kevin Abraham, FT Solutions’ operations manager with the PowerSquare 224 and a mini Kevin
The brand management business has installed a Watkiss PowerSquare 224 bookletmaker to grow pagination and shrink page size.
‘Our aim was to increase the pagination of our stitched books,’ explained Kevin Abraham, operations manager. The new machine stitches, folds, spine-forms and trims in one pass, and produces books with a square spine, similar to perfect bound products. ‘The PowerSquare allows us to produce up to 224 pages depending on stock,’ noted Mr Abraham.
One application for the machine is to support the firm’s move into 3D printing. It is used to finish the miniature booklets that are included with figurines produced from full body scans. ‘When we package up a figurine, we need to produce very small booklets as part of the package,’ explained Mr Abraham. ‘We were delighted to discover that the PowerSquare is versatile enough to do this for us in-house. So we don’t just miniaturise people – with the PowerSquare we can miniaturise our print too.’
