The desire to bring square back finishing in-house has seen Irish printer Hacketts invest in two new Morgana systems, which it bought from Dublin-based Printing & Graphic Equipment, which is Morgana Systems’ dealer in Ireland.
The systems are the AF350 bookletmaker with AF602 Feeder and Autocreaser 33 Pro, which replaces an older Autocreaser.
Brian O’Loughlin, Hacketts Group director, said: ‘Our customers were requesting a booklet finish for higher page counts with a superior finish rather than the standard saddle staple. We have been outsourcing work to get the square backed finish that our customers required, however, logistically this was proving time-consuming with our supplier having plenty of additional work to schedule in and with a considerable volume of our own finishing work completed after hours it was becoming very apparent for us to have our own in-house solution to manage our customer’s expectations efficiently.
‘Having reviewed the products on the market, we were very impressed with the samples from the BM350 Bookletmaker provided by Morgana, and have always had an excellent working relationship with Printing & Graphic Equipment, the Morgana dealer in Ireland. The new BM350 offered us everything we needed in a booklet maker with automated feeding.’
The BM350 and BM500 are high capacity bookletmaking machines which are capable of producing books of up to 140 or 200 pages of 80 gsm paper respectively. The BM350, which is installed at Hacketts, produces books up to 140 pages squared and trimmed in a single pass. It includes the Morgana AF602 dual bin high-capacity feeder for continuous production.
Mr O’Loughlin said the systems, installed in June, are serving the firm well. ‘The SquareFold and trim is a great facility giving a superb finish. It offers something different for the market. Customers do not always fully understand it until we show them their own samples. As soon as they see it, they understand the benefits and want the square backed finish every time.’
