Bob Usher, Apex Digital Graphics managing director.
After 10 years situated in Maxted Road, Hemel Hempstead, Apex Digital Graphics has moved to a new site in the Hertfordshire town, closer to its Print Efficiently partner IFS, but also closer to the infamous Buncefield oil refinery – site of the huge explosion in 2005, described at the time as the biggest of its kind in peacetime Europe.
The move to new premises for Apex, which is the official UK distributor of Ryobi MHI printing equipment, Screen and CRON computer-to-plate solutions, and a UK dealer for Konica Minolta digital equipment, came about following the end of the lease at its Maxted Road premises.
The new 15,000 square foot site in Boundary Way – two doors down from IFS – is recently constructed and provides better-sized facilities for the current shape of the business, according to managing director Bob Usher. ‘As we all know, the printing industry has changed since the recession, and we have adjusted our operations to fit the needs of our customers. The new building is ideal for our current needs and what we anticipate will be our requirements moving forward.’
It will provide a storage and distribution centre for supplies and spare parts, a showroom facility for litho presses, digital printing equipment, and pre-press products, as well as office and meeting room space for the company.
Of the proximity to Buncefield, Mr Usher commented: ‘Thankfully there is a lot less fuel stored at the facility now, and one would like to think that there are more stringent safety measures in place as well.’
A showroom facility is currently under construction, and an official opening of the new premises is being scheduled for later in the year. It will however be fully operational for the Print Efficiently event being staged together with IFS on 6/7/8 and 20/21/22 October 2015.
