Tees Valley-based Billingham Press has become the latest UK print business to install a Morgana DigiBook 200 PUR perfect binding machine.
The purchase was made via Morgana dealer for the North East, Inkland. Ian Dodds, managing director of Billingham Press, said, ‘We have been enjoying an increasing demand for our digitally printed work, and whilst we have a fully operational bindery for our litho printing, digital really demands equipment that is specific to short-run production.
‘We began working with Morgana equipment some 18 months ago with the purchase of a DocuMaster bookletmaking machine. The square back capability of the system makes it ideal for a wide range of design agency booklet work that we produce – typically A4 or A5 in size, with runs in the region of two to four hundred copies. Having taken the decision to then seek an efficient in-house perfect binding solution, Morgana were naturally one of the companies that we approached.’
The company had never been involved in perfect binding production on-site before, however, the cost and the lead time, prompted the team to seek a more effective solution.
Morgana Systems Ltd, manufacturer of equipment for digital finishing, launched the DigiBook 200 last year at Ipex 2014 as the latest addition to its popular PUR perfect binder range.
The DigiBook 200 handles spine lengths from 110 to 320 mm and the maximum thickness is 50 mm. Retractable spine milling means that the device can go from soft- to hard-cover binding at the flick of a switch. Side gluing for the cover hinge is adjustable depending upon the cover style required.
