Lewis Quinlan, operator, with the Foliant Taurus laminator
General commercial printer Rainbow Print has invested in a B2 Foliant Taurus laminator making the company cost competitive for both digital and litho print.
The unit was bought from Intelligent Finishing Systems after a successful trip to Ipex in the spring.
‘We were sending all our lamination out and getting a great service,’ explained Darren Roberts, joint owner. ‘But when we put the Linoprint C751 digital press in last summer the need to turnaround short run work, faster, became clear. We wanted to be able to capitalise on the business essence of digital print and sending work out impacted turnaround times and the cost of jobs. Now we can be more responsive and cost competitive for both digital and litho print.’
The Heidelberg house that runs two five colour Heidelberg SM74s a two colour Heidelberg PM46 and a Linoprint C751 serves local and national companies, public sector organisations and provides a trade service.
Mr Roberts chose the Foliant Taurus based on its ease of use, simple set up and quality finish, he added, ‘We considered other systems and had a good look at a couple when we visited Ipex. We liked the fact it had a feeding head and is very versatile. It also warms up very quickly and the need to print so many overs is reduced which is a benefit to the company and our clients.
‘The Taurus is so simple to use that we have a few members of staff trained to operate it so they can hop on and off as the work demands.’
As for the anticipated impact on the business Mr Roberts said, ‘I expect productivity to increase significantly. We noticed an uplift within the first few weeks of it being installed. It will also make us more versatile by offering a lamination service in house.
‘Clients more than ever demand quick turnaround, quality print and an exceptional service we have already had more work placed by those looking for just that.’
