Addressing & Mailing Solutions (AMS) has for the first time shown technology from Canadian company Buskro at its open house event in Hoddesdon, Herts. On display was Buskro’s Atom – a self-contained portable inkjet printing system suitable for mounting onto printers and mailing lines.

Aimed at companies with volumes in excess of 250,000 images per month for total cost of ownership purposes, Atom can print using a choice of solvent, UV or fast drying inks, with print speeds up to 4.6 metres per second. Print swaths of 1 inch and 2.55 inches give a resolution of 256 and 300 dpi respectively.   It can operate with FlexMail software, as well as Buskro’s Compose V10 software, and can print text, graphics and barcodes. The choice of ink is binding, and inks come in 375 ml bottles. Everything is contained within the system, making it portable and versatile, able to print onto almost any stock.

Atom is a black ink print head, but Buskro also manufactures full colour systems – the CGS 2500/5100 systems, the latter of which has a 5.1 inch print swath. A modular plastic card line has also just been released with full colour UV inks and magnetic stripe encoding. AMS said it was looking to support existing Buskro technology in the field, as well as selling new units.
