The SPS Group, supplier of retail marketing and point of sale solutions, has resolved cracking issues for C&T Matrix’s POS display with its Corrugate product.

The group was commissioned to produce a range of 1.4 m tall 3D standee units for a leading FMCG brand, for use in major retail outlets across the UK. The unit required solid black print, to fold and laminate, to a corrugated EB flute at 180⁰. However, the initial platen tests had not been successful across a range of paper thicknesses and weights. Cracking appeared along the black solid areas and adjustments to the folding matrix only partially resolved the issue.

After a full audit of the issue the company recommended different combinations of its Corrugate Standard and U Bend, with various locators, to accommodate single and double rules, which were used in combination to resolve the cracking issue, giving perfect creasing.

Simon Shenton, managing director at C&T Matrix said, ‘We listened to The SPS Group and used our know-how to help resolve the cracking problem. By creating brand new products such as Corrugate, we are able to help our clients to achieve better results and save them money. This revolutionary combination of products and expertise is all aimed at improving productivity, performance and quality.’

Corrugate reduces knuckling by creating a holding form in which to crease, the result is an increase in accuracy and definition to the crease and the overall appearance is improved. Corrugate has a wider base than traditional products, resulting in stronger adhesion to the plate, reducing movement and improving registration. This wider base also helps to cushion the impact of the crease. The improved edge on the creasing matrix and shallower angle of the chamfer helps to overcome problems such as poor run ability of the board and blocking in the machine caused by folding thicker boards.
