Canon Europe has launched the toner-based Océ VarioStream 7170, an entry-level, monochrome simplex continuous feed solution.
The printer is aimed at corporate and commercial environments with low to mid range volumes of transactional, direct mail, product instruction collateral and special media applications.
Christian Unterberger, executive vice president, said: ‘Running at 172 ppm A4 2 up simplex or 182 ppm letter size 2 up simplex, and quality of up to 600 dpi, customers achieve outstanding productivity and performance for black and white simplex printing. The proven reliability and quality associated with the Océ product range makes the Océ VarioStream 7170 system a future-proof production printer that is easy to operate and maintain.’
Time-saving features such as automatic paper loading substantially reduce and simplify set-up time. Automatic resolution detection and switching further reduce operator intervention. The positive impact this has on productivity makes the system ideally suited for short run printing and quick change jobs.
In addition to standard paper, its non-contact flash fusing technology allows users to process a wide range of special media applications such as adhesive labels, thin plastic cards, foils and light weight forms.
The non-contact flash fusing bonds the toner without heat transfer or exerting pressure, thus putting less strain on the paper and keeping it in perfect condition for finishing. The substrate remains flat throughout the device, enabling users to process special media that cannot withstand paper path deflections or the heat and pressure of normal fusing.
The LED image generator delivers excellent output up to 600 dpi quality for professional-grade text, graphics and barcodes and fulfils the tough legibility standards for security applications. As a result, users have the flexibility to take on a wide portfolio of print jobs.
The printer engine is equipped with the newest powerful SRA controller technology. Customers can seamlessly operate the system side by side with all other Océ continuous feed printers. It can be used as a proofing device and as a backup for other VarioStream systems.
In addition to the new Océ VarioStream 7170 system, a slower speed version will be available in 2014. Running at 108 A4 ppm two-up, the Océ VarioStream 7110 system will extend the speed choices within the product line.
