Print Express in Ruislip has spoken in glowing terms about its investment in a Kodak Nexpress Photo 3900 press, which is allowing it to build a personalised photo gift and photo sharing business through the PrinterPix brand (www.printerpix.co.uk).
The press has a long sheet capacity and an automatic roll feeder so the operators can combine continuous feed and sheet-fed options from the drawers. With sheet-fed jobs, the company can change substrates very quickly with the automatic feed from the drawers. It was installed at Print Express in November 2012, after being viewed at the Print Efficiently event the previous month. The company has become the first in the UK to offer leather-bound photobooks.
Murtaza Daya, chief innovation officer, said, ‘There are many photobook companies out there, but we are able to offer something different – a personalised service. This is because our image store is uncompressed, and we can control full access, unlike others where there are zillions of images that have to be compressed.’
He added that the ‘sharpness in the detail and the vivid colour contrast’ of the Nexpress was bringing a vibrancy to the printed matter. ‘We bring our printing heritage and expertise to the world of photographs,’ he continued. ‘We can produce photographs on different substrates – books, canvas, calendars or even a pillow, a mug or a key ring. We also offer fine art prints of choice on posters, canvas, metal, acrylics or wood.’
Print Express is part of the Syncoms group, which has five sites in Ruislip. While both Print Express and PrinterPix are consumer orientated with online ordering, it also deals with commercial B2B print, servicing a variety of corporate clients such as the NHS and the Metropolitan Police. It is utilising the potential of the Nexpress technology to produce training manuals, brochures and marketing materials at a high level of quality and volume.
