The new PowerSquare 224 bookmaker

Watkiss Automation Ltd, manufacturer of print finishing and booklet making systems, has launched the new PowerSquare 224 bookmaker.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the machine is a complete booklet making solution for digital printers.  It is engineered for the digital production environment where it will produce stitched, SquareBack books up to 224 pages thick. The machine follows on from the success of its predecessor, the PowerSquare 200.

Paul Attew, sales director, said,  ‘The PowerSquare 224 is an exciting introduction. It brings greater automation to the booklet making process without any compromises to quality, it connects to a wider range of printers than ever before; and it has been optimised for the production environment, handling both black and white, and colour output with ease.’

It is available in three configurations: offline, nearline and online.  It connects to a wide range of digital printers, including both centre and side-registered systems such as the Xerox iGen.  Optional accessories include a high capacity book stacker and a full-bleed trimmer for colour documents.

Watkiss has increased the specification of this model to include a larger online sheet size, 365 x 500 mm, an increased book thickness, 10.4 mm, and a higher average monthly production volume, 50,000 books.  The paper path through the machine has been enhanced to optimise performance with the high quality papers used in colour digital print applications.

The machine also features a new dynamic auto-adjustment system that ensures quality performance regardless of book thickness, allowing uninterrupted running when streaming jobs, or when printing variable content documents that have different page counts.
