The IBIS Smart-binder range has a new high speed version.
British saddle stitching manufacturer IBIS has launched an enhanced version of its Smart-binder machine, running at 7000 booklets per hour at web speeds of up to 200 metres per minute.
The Smart-binder Plus HS (High Speed) adds these performance metrics while retaining saddle-binding page variations in normal increments of four. It has a new higher speed infeed, folding and sheet collecting system and performance enhancements to the trimmer transport system.
IBIS’s Smart-binder series offers a variety of high-quality booklet and book finishing options, including the capability of producing personalised ‘books-of-one’, either in-line with a continuous web digital press, or from a roll, or sheet pile feeder. Prices start from £120,000 for an in-line IBIS Smart-binder system.
On the new high speed model, sheets are folded individually, with integrated sheet and booklet tracking systems for true variable-data production output. There are a number of models in the range, with SB-3, 4 and 5 all including IBIS’s patented Individual Sheet Gluing (ISG) cold glue binding, which replaces the need for conventional wire-stitching. IBIS said that ISG gluing provides a higher quality bind, and allows the number of pages in each booklet to be continually varied from four pages up to 10 mm maximum book thickness, without stopping the sheet infeed flow from the web or sheet feeder.
John Cracknell, Managing Director of IBIS Integrated Bindery Systems, said: ‘The IBIS Smart-binder Plus HS reinforces our commitment to quality, customers and a need to satisfy a growing demand for our market-leading systems that make digital print more relevant and immediate to the recipient.’
