The 80 pages per minute Ricoh Pro C5110S.

The addition of two new production class SRA3 colour digital printing engines has closed a gap in its portfolio, according to Ricoh.

The light production models are called the Pro C5100S and Pro C5110S and are aimed at commercial graphic arts and CRD/inplant and quick printers with average monthly print volumes of around twenty to thirty thousand. Speed, small footprint, and total cost of ownership were driving factors in their design, said Ricoh. The systems have maximum output speeds of 65 pages per minute and 80 pages per minute respectively, with resolution of 1200 x 4800 dpi. They can also scan at 220 pages per minute high speed duplex.

An enhanced toner formulation in Ricoh’s PxP toner gives these systems a 10% wider colour gamut than the Pro C751 series of presses, with uniform particle sizes providing smoother colour gradations. In addition, enhanced toner transfer technology makes for better results when printing on heavily textured stock – ideal for direct mail and marketing applications, the company said – while a new fuser assembly enables an optimised combination of fuser temperature and pressure for substrates in the in-built media library. This also makes the systems capable of printing onto envelopes.

Through advanced settings, the range can be set up to print banners up to 1260 mm in length. There is a range of configurations, including integrated finishing options such as booklet making, folding and punching, and a choice of two EFI Fiery servers, the high performance E42B and the E22B, both of which are based on the latest FS100 platform.

The Pro C5100S and C5110S are due to be available for customer installation in Q3 of 2013. Ricoh has not provided pricing on the systems yet, but said they will be ‘very competitive in all respects’. The presses will be shown for the first time in the UK at North Print & Pack. It is understood that Heidelberg will not for the time being incorporate the new devices into its Linoprint range, which is based on Ricoh’s Pro line of production printers, because they are not considered best suited to its commercial printer customer base.
