The Impika iPrint 250.

Xerox has announced that it has acquired French inkjet press manufacturer Impika, adding the company’s aqueous inkjet technology to its own CiPress waterless inkjet solution. Xerox has been selling the Impika systems in Europe for two years, so is familiar with the technology for maintenance and support purposes already.

Impika will retain its brand, but becomes a Xerox company. Paul Morgavi, president and CEO of Impika, will continue to lead the company, reporting to Xerox head Jeff Jacobsen. Its product line includes the iPrint continuous feed production printers that boast speeds up to 375 metres per minute, and the iPress high quality systems, which can print at up to 2400 x 1200 dpi.

Xerox described the technology as being ‘among the most scalable, flexible and robust in the industry’. It also paid tribute to Impika’s ‘deep inkjet know-how’ and ‘customer-centric culture’.

Announcing the acquisition, Xerox’s president of Graphic Communications Operations, Jeff Jacobson, said: ‘With Impika as part of our broader set of solutions, we’re bolstering our brand strength and better serving the market with digital products, solutions and resources to meet the needs of print providers so they can satisfy their clients and grow their businesses.’

He added that it was important for Xerox to be ‘more than a reseller’. ‘We need to have full control to develop products to our own specifications,’ said Mr Jacobson. Impika has installations in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, but Paul Morgavi added that the manufacturer ‘needed a little help to get to the next level’, and that being part of Xerox will ‘give us the global coverage we need’.
