The iGen150 in situ at imageData.

Print group imageData has recently installed the UK’s first Xerox iGen150.

The company continues with its ambitious growth plans and aims to become one of the most sophisticated digital print companies in the UK. CEO, David Danforth explained: ‘We’ve been providing clever print solutions since our modest beginnings, in automated ticketing, some 30 years ago. We have a pedigree in data-driven and technological print solutions. Our clients love that we are at the leading edge of the current digital print movement. The new iGen 150 brings us one more step closer to our goal.’

The company provides digital, litho and screen print solutions to a growing number of clients in the retail, public services and corporate sectors. The iGen 150 joins other iGen, Indigo and Nuvera presses in the company’s small-to-medium format digital print workspace.

The new press has a number of features that enhance colour reproduction and consistency, such as its Confident Color, which matches to a variety of industry colour standards, while an automated colour maintenance tool and an inline spectrophotometer take the manual intervention out of the calibration process. An automatic density control system corrects any streaks before they occur.

Jason Vivian, operations director said: ‘The iGen 150 has a new 2400 x 2400 imaging system which renders plenty of detail and images appear faithful and sharp. True to Xerox’s word the colours stay consistent, right the way through a print run. This is great for our clients who can be confident that their print will look just as good in the last delivery box as it did in the first. Brilliant.’

The company already has small-to-medium format digital capability but the iGen 150, with its larger output size, image quality and its ability to print on a wide range of substrates will also allow the company to expand its product scope. Variable six page A4s, short-run folders with capacity pockets, new creative pieces featuring unusual or awkward sizes and photographic books can now be offered by imageData.

The machine’s speed was another reason it was chosen by the company Mr Danforth added, ‘We were impressed with the print speed, which is 25% faster than our current small-to-medium format colour digital kit. The iGen 150 really does have a turn of pace that we haven’t experienced from any other press in its class. This, in conjunction with the machine’s new 660 mm sheet size, allows greater productivity as more pages can be printed per sheet, resulting in more prints per hour, using less material. It’s also worth noting that with the new inks’ drying time is not required before coating which also increases productivity. Very clever stuff!’
