This prototype for a pair of headphones was printed in a single session on an Objet Connex, yet combines several materials: the new Rigid Black for the sides, Black Objet Digital Materials for Soft-Touch Zones on the ear pads (Shore 40), and a different hardness (Shore 60) for the pad inside the headband.
Object has added to the range of materials available for its Connex 3D printing systems. There is a new Rigid Black Material and a series of 16 flexible Rigid Black and Rubber-like materials in 16 Shore A values from 27 to 95.
The company said that the new materials enable the simulation of various rigid and rubber-like materials for prototyping the likes of seals and packaging for consumer good, consumer electronics and automotive parts. It said that such models require the combination of rigid and flexible properties within a single prototype of consistent black colouring, such as its headphones example pictured above.
The Connex multi-material printers are able to handle more than one material at once, so they can be combined within the same printed item and even blended from one to another.
The new materials are available immediately.
