The new C9280 colour model is faster, greener and more versatile.
A new colour version of the second generation Canon imageRunner Advance Pro light production press has been announced, aimed at more commercial applications than the office-oriented monochrome models.
The C9280 Pro model is a bit faster than the previous 9000 Pro series at 70 pages per minute in full colour (up from 60 on the older 9000 Pros), or 80 ppm in monochrome. There’s also a new EFI Fiery 10 based server as standard. It takes sheets up 330 x 487 mm and 300 g/m2.
Canon claims it offers improved productivity, reduced power consumption and warm-up times thanks to a new ‘on demand’ fuser technology, as well as more finishing options. Prices start at £45,930 and the company is taking orders now.
The older C9000S model with an Océ Prisma Rip is still on sale for CRD applications.
The monochrome imageRunner Advance 8200 Pro family previously announced starts at £26,690, with three models available for speeds of 85, 95 and 105 pages per minute. These all have the new fuser tech, plus remote shutdown and weekly automatic shutdown capabilities. They can be commanded to overwrite data on their internal hard disks to help with security-sensitive work. Target markets are CRDs and similar inplant users, plus print for pay applications.
Since the platform’s launch there have been 21 sales of the monochrome 8200 in the UK with more on order, while Canon said that there are several pending orders for the newly announced colour model. Since the original C9000 colour model was announced in 2009 there have been 216 units sold in the UK, out of a total of 2400 across Europe. The mono 8000 Pro models were announced in June 2010 since when 547 have been sold in the UK out of 3037 across Europe.
