French digital press maker MGI is showing the production version of its JetVarnish 3D digital UV varnishing inkjet at this week’s Embellage packaging exhibition in Paris.
This was first shown as a prototype at drupa in May and is the second generation of the company’s UV digital spot varnishing systems. It is significantly faster and as the name suggests, it can also produced a raised or textured clear image up to 80 microns high if required.
The company said that it is intended for print runs from single copies to several thousand, adding: ‘JETvarnish 3D’s new capabilities produce beautiful, tactile 3D effects that enhance visual appeal and bring a new sensory dimension to all printed projects, the ultimate finishing solution for adding value to jobs and allowing brands to take their messaging to a new level.’
It sees the packaging as the main market, including luxury, cosmetics, jewelry and food/beverage, among others. It’s also suited to personalised and limited edition projects, proofing and VIP/special event flyers, book covers, point-of-sale materials and brochures.
