The first beta installations of the B2 format HP Indigo 10000 digital sheetfed presses have now been made, with Precision Printing in London taking the first in the UK. Pureprint in Uckfield will receive the second one towards the end of October.
‘The HP Indigo 10000 is a major step forward in digital production,’ said Gary Peeling, managing director of Precision Printing. ‘The ability to offer customers new product formats and sizes gives us greater versatility and a competitive advantage. The increased production capability significantly moves the cross-over point and we expect that to attract digital work from new markets.’
Two other beta installations have been made so far, at US printer Sandy Alexander in Clifton, New Jersey and at Old City Press in Jerusalem, Israel. Other announced sites include Consolidated Graphics (United States), Courier (United States), Elanders (Germany), Prol Gráfica (Brazil) and Wing Hung Group (Hong Kong). All these installations are due to be completed by November, according to HP.
The 10000 press is one of three new larger format HP Indigos announced earlier this year and publicly shown at drupa in May. All previous presses from the company have been SRA3 format or the web fed equivalent. The 10000 is intended for commercial printing work and prints 3450 sheets per hour in standard CMYK production mode, or 4600 colour sheets per hour using HP’s three colour (CMY) Enhanced Productivity Mode.
At the Graph Expo show in Chicago in October, Japanese finishing manufacturer Horizon showed the new SmartStacker, a B2 format cutter/slitter that can work in-line or near-line to the 10000 press.
The other two large format Indigos are the 20000, a 762 mm wide web fed model intended mainly for flexible packaging; and the 30000, a sheetfed B2 carton press.
