Mount Street Printers in London’s Mayfair district has taken delivery of a Linoprint C751 digital press, as well as a Suprasetter A52 platesetter and a Polar 66 guillotine, all supplied by Heidelberg.
The 31 year old company is a Royal Warrant holder, offering a die-stamping, thermography and litho service. It is now adding digital to enable it to provide short run work cost effectively. The Linoprint C751 is Heidelberg’s name for the Ricoh Pro C751 light production sheet-fed colour press.
Peter Cain, managing director, said: ‘We will retain our GTO for runs of over 1000 but for the very short run jobs the set-up time is too slow. We needed a digital press. We looked quite widely but found many of the digital presses outputting colour little different to a photocopier. The Linoprint toner is much better, more like litho, and our operators have been blown away by the quality it is producing.’
The investment in CTP reflects the company’s belief that litho still has a place. Mr Cain believes the litho-digital split will be about 50-50 but that over time there could be a migration towards digital. This new device will supersede two machines, a metal and a polyester platemaker, although one might be retained as back up.
The company’s second Polar 66 guillotine will arrive in the new few weeks, to be used for both digital and offset work. It has 30 years experience with Polar guillotines and was confident in buying another.
