The Labelexpo Americas show saw EFI introduce the Jetrion 4900M UV digital inkjet printing system. The M stands for Modular. It takes the year-old Jetrion 4900 integrated print and finishing system and puts it onto a platform that lets it run inline with other web finishing systems and expanded as required. The maximum web width is 229 mm, with a 210 mm print width.

Also announced is the Jetrion 4900M-330, with a wider 330 mm print width for increased productivity, profitability, and an expanded range of applications. This makes it an equivalent to the FFEI/Nilpeter Caslon system, which puts a 330 or 420 mm wide UV inkjet printing unit into a standard Nilpeter label transport chassis where it can run inline with flexo and finishing units.

‘We believe that the 4900M’s modular platform will position label converters to address head-on today’s challenges while providing an upgradable platform for business growth as the label market continues to evolve from analog to digital,’ said Sean Skelly, vice president and general manager of EFI Jetrion. ‘The wider form factor is a direct response to customer feedback and market demand.’

According to EFI: ‘until now, production of labels, whether flexo or digital, has required multiple production steps. The new Jetrion 4900M Series changes the game, with modular integration of finishing capabilities that result in the delivery of a finished product in a single operation, removing time and cost from the manufacturing process. This is especially critical for label converters who wish to remain competitive as both lot sizes and cycle times continue to diminish. The 4900M Series’ modular design means that additional capabilities can be added as they become available or are needed, thus future-proofing this investment.’

Both new models were shown at LAbelexpo, but the Jetrion 4900M will be the first to ship, and is available to order now. The 4900M-330 will be commercially available in the first quarter of 2013. An ‘affordable upgrade path’ will be offered to customers who purchase a Jetrion 4900M  and want the wider width later. According to EFI the ability to choose between two print widths in the same print engine with a modular field upgrade is unique and ensures that customer investments are protected.

EFI is also promoting its Radius ERP software platform to handle automated business process management from order inquiry to cash receipt for label, flexible packaging and folding carton businesses.
