PIP Printing in Muswell Hill, North London, has spent over £10,000 on a range of Fastbind photobook and casemaking equipment from Ashgate Automation.
Colin Rosen, the company’s managing director, placed the order when he visited an open house at Ashgate’s showroom near Oxford.
The Fastbind equipment package includes a Casematic H46Pro large format casemaker, a Fotomount F46e large format lay-flat photobook maker and a Booxter Trio staple binder. A Matrix Duo 650 laminator was also ordered.
‘I knew we had to offer photobooks at some stage because it is a profitable market’ said Mr Rosen. ’It was simply a question of biting the bullet and making the investment. With the recent installation of a Xerox 770 digital printer, it was an opportune time to broaden our finishing service.’
Ashgate has been supplier to PIP Printing for more than 20 years, so it was an obvious choice when he looked at the photobook equipment market. ‘I saw the Fastbind equipment being demonstrated a couple of times before I made up my mind to buy it,’ Mr Rosen added. ‘It will enable us to make a variety of hard and soft back books in a range of sizes and spine widths at different price points to suit our customers.
‘It’s always been my policy to buy the equipment and learn how to get the best from it before we market it hard. The same applies to the Fastbind equipment. Photobooks will be a priority but we will also make customised ring binders, presentation books and a variety of other books and cases as the opportunity arises.
‘Having dealt with Ashgate for such a long time, we know that they will be there to support us when we need them. At the Open House I was also able to see the Taopix photobook software being demonstrated, which we are seriously considering.’
