Precision Colour Printing (PCP), part of the Claverley Group, placed an order with Fujifilm for a Xerox Color 1000 digital press and Duplo booklet making equipment on Fujifilm’s stand at drupa 2012.
This investment will allow the commercial print service provider, which boasts a turnover of £36 million per annum, to establish a digital department on its site in Telford, Shropshire, to compliment its offset magazine and catalogue printing business.
Clients include large names in the publishing and print management industries, including Future, Haymarket, Ian Allen, Webmart and Bauer Publishing.
‘Our new digital department will give PCP the ability to take on more short-run magazine printing work – something we are seeing more and more requirements for – and will also give us the ability to print any shortfalls in our production runs to the same high quality,’ said Alex Evans, managing director at PCP. ‘In addition, we will be able to offer a digital printing resource to the rest of the Claverley Group, and will later look to roll it out further to offer a digital printing service to local businesses.’
PCP has a longstanding relationship with Fujifilm, having worked together to test and implement Fujifilm’s XMF Workflow software. It has also has been using its Brillia HD PRO-V low chemistry offset plates for many years.
‘Through the years, Fujifilm has demonstrated that it not only provides top quality products, but also listens to its customers’ needs,’ said Mr Evans. ‘Therefore, when we started thinking about adding a digital department, we discussed our options with them. Although we also looked at other devices, Fujifilm could offer us everything we need, allowing us to deal with one trusted supplier only.’
The Colour 1000 Press, a 100 page per minute sheet fed colour press, uses low melt, EA (Emulsion Aggregation) Dry Ink and fusing technology, and can lay down a clear toner using its fifth printing unit. It prints at 2400 x 2400 dpi, while its EA Dry Ink delivers what’s described as an ‘offset like finish.’ The clear, dry ink allows images and text to be highlighted for visual impact, or digital watermarks to be applied.
