Israeli based inkjet based ‘digital embossing’ inkjet developer Scodix is introducing new versions for B2+ and B3+ formats that can handle thicker substrates, plus a Rainbow Station that can add metallic glitter to the clear UV coating. A dedicated Braille system is also being introduced. All will be shown at drupa.

The new Scodix Digital Press S52 and S74 in B2+ (52 cm) and B3+ (74 cm) sizes can print a high gloss or textured clear raised coating on thicker substrates from 135 to 675 g/m2 or up to 700 microns. The raised image, which it calls ScodixSense, can now be varied up to 250 microns thick.

The Rainbow Station is a standalone digital inkjet glittering printer, producing what it calls ‘the Scodix Digital-Glittering experience.’ The company said it has applications for photo album covers, marketing communication materials, premium packages, cosmetics boxes, business cards, wedding invitations and other short run applications. Glitter printing can be added over any colour or transparency in one pass.

The Inkjet-Braille technology can create standard raised Braille formats plus scientific elements, shapes such as triangles and circles, and animal forms. The company said that unlike regular Braille, the letters and shapes created stay raised at the same height, never flatten and are very easy to sense read.
