The TrueVis VG2 series of eco-solvent printer-cutters has been announced by Roland DG. The 1625 and 1371mm width roll-fed machines bring a number of quality and performance enhancements by focusing on ‘dozens of little details’, according to Kohei Tanabe, president of the company’s Digital Printing Business division.
To be premiered in the UK at Sign & Digital in April, the new models feature the ‘new generation eco-solvent’ TR2 ink which adds orange to the existing CMYK, light cyan, magenta and black plus white set. This expands the printable colour gamut and can be used either as a process colour or as a spot colour depending on application when reproducing brand colours. For general colour use, there is also a True Rich Colour option that maximises the colour gamut for photographic image reproduction.
‘Now for the first time, vibrant colour can be combined with neutral greys, smooth gradations and natural skin tones to create stunning graphics,’ said Mr Tanabe.
The new inks are said to yield print ready for lamination in six hours with optimised drying conditions and prints are certified by the 3M MCS (currently excluding white and orange ink, expected to follow) and Avery Dennison ICS for outdoor performance, as well as being certified Greenguard Gold for indoor applications.
Other improvements are focused on productivity and accuracy in the print-and-cut process and include an optional take-up unit as well as mechanical refinements in media handling.
