Paper merchant Antalis used last week’s Sign & Digital show to launch and demonstrate Xanita, a lightweight printable fibre board material that has good structural properties for display, PoS and architectural applications.
Described as a 100% repulpable engineered closed-cell fibre board, Xanita has a corrugated kraft core made from recycled cardboard boxes and sugar cane waste. This gives it very good rigidity and crush resistance as well as strong environmental credentials, making it suitable for a range of decorative applications including shop-fit and exhibition design – 30% of Antalis’s own stand was built from it at the Birmingham show, including functioning stools as well as a fireplace and various sculptural items.
Head of visual communications Chris Green told Digital Printer, ‘Last year, stands like ours would have been made of MDF and gone to landfill after use; Xanita recycles again into packaging and boxes, even when printed with UV inkjet.’ As well as being plastic-free, Xanita uses VOC-free adhesives, FSC-sourced liners and is ECF-certified, meaning that all materials in its construction are non-toxic.
Antalis also used Sign & Digital to preview new printable textile additions to its Coala range. To become available in June, these include a black-back knitted block variety which can disguise rough textures in underlying walls while adding sheen and tactility. The range will suit decor and acoustic control applications and will support latex, dye sublimation and UV-cured printing.
