Cutting machine manufacturer Polar has appointed Frank Seidel as its new overall head of engineering and realised an update to its Compact software for automating set-up of its guillotines.

Mr Seidel took up his position, which has been newly created, in May. He will be responsible for all mechanical and electrical engineering at the Hofheim-based company and will report directly to the CEO.

Since completing his mechanical engineering studies at Darmstadt Technical University in 2006, Mr Seidel has worked for several German companies in R&D positions as well as engineering roles.

Polar has also updated its Compucut software. Comprising the Compucut Go basic version for D nor N-plus machines, the more fully featured Control, and Auto Control which can create cutting programs from prepress data in JDF/PPF, the software provides varying degrees of automated job set-up and in large networked production environments can assign jobs of a first-come first served basis.

Version 5.0.8 focuses on Autoturn gripper coordination, key to the Pace automatic cutting system. Also new is the option to program a ‘lint cut’, which corrects any unclean cut edges via countercuts.
