Leeds-based communications agency CDS has invested in a Horizon HT-30C three-side trimmer from Intelligent Finishing Systems.
The machine, which will be installed at CDS’ digital print premises in Aylesbury, will be joined by a Perfecta 78 Eco guillotine in the coming weeks.
The investment followed a company-wide performance review, conducted in partnership with Canon, with the trimmer being needed to expand production capacity and streamline workflow during periods of peak demand.
‘After reviewing operations, challenges and opportunities we developed a three-year plan,’ explained operations director Ian Wilton. ‘We’re growing quickly and had to ensure we have the equipment to meet demand and continue to deliver the high level of service and quality-at-speed our customers are accustomed to.
‘We picked the trimmer to ease a bottleneck so we could keep production moving. It is a great system. It does exactly what we need it to do. Now we are much more efficient. In fact, it saves up to as much as 50% in the time it takes to finish work. It has freed up our guillotine and turnaround times on jobs have improved consequently. Taking all the above into account the return on this investment will materialise much quicker than anticipated.’
CDS’ new trimmer features automated job set-ups and quick changeovers with the ability to store up to 40 different book jobs in memory. It operates off-line to trim perfect bound books at speeds up to 200 cycles per hour. A colour touch screen allows all set-ups to be performed with full automation.
