Enhancements to EFI’s Color Profiler Suite software are said to bring better ‘out of the box’ colour plus more advanced control for colour profile adjustment in devices driven by the company’s Fiery digital front-ends.
Fiery Edge profiles are available for some new cut-sheet digital presses and for various wide-format printers. In standard use, they are claimed to give much smoother colour transitions and blends, while revealing more image detail and improving depth and clarity as well as giving better renderings of RGB-based red and blue colours.
For those who want to optimise their colour reproduction to meet brand owners’ or other clients’ colour expectations, a number of advanced controls are now available. One is black point selection and editing, which maximises the dynamic range of print especially when the darkest printable colour is not a neutral black. Users can also control shadow detail to better match image content. There are also tools for controlling colour-to-black gradations for reduced ‘peppering’ and image grain, expected to appeal in quality-sensitive applications such as photobook printing.
The Color Edge software also includes the Intensify option, which increases the ‘pop’ of saturated colours but without losing grey balance or affecting skin tones. As explained to Digital Printer, it is a way of intelligently using a particular printer, ink and media combination’s maximum gamut to provide more visual impact but without producing crude ‘poster’ colours. The Color Edge technology supports up to eight colour channels, including additional primaries such as orange, blue, green or violet.
