Specialised Canvas Group has installed its second Zünd digital cutter, a G3 3XL-3200, as it strives to double production capacity amidst growing demand for its products.
For the past 13 years the company had been relying on the Zünd PN Series but it was time for an upgrade, as managing director Paul Noble explained: ‘The business needed to increase productivity to keep up with the increasing demands from our customers and ensure we continue to provide them with an excellent level of service.’
Specialised Canvas provides bespoke canvas solutions from its premises in Chesterfield, where it is based alongside sister companies Banner Box Print Solutions and Flagmakers.
‘Zünd digital cutters are well known in our industry,’ Mr Noble continued. ‘The build quality, precision and productivity these state-of-the-art cutters offer is outstanding. Furthermore, our existing relationship with Zünd through our existing PN Series machine, meant we knew the level of service we would get, a company that would go above and beyond for their customers. Having visited the Zünd demonstration facility in St Albans, we were sold on the modularity and productivity the current generation of Zünd cutters offered. It’s giving us capacity beyond our necessity and ensures there is further room for growth, which is a very desirable position to be in.’
The cutter was installed in late December 2019 with Specialised Canvas becoming the first customer in the UK to have an over cutter camera (OCC). ‘The OCC is an intelligent optical system for fully automated digital capture of register marks,’ explained Zünd sales and marketing manager, Dean Ashworth. ‘The camera is mounted above the centre of the cutter and captures all register marks within the working area of the cutting system in a single image in a matter of seconds. This reduces manual intervention in the production workflow to a minimum and increases productivity.’
