Antalis has opened its Smart Packaging Centre, a virtual hub where users can create packaging designs from their homes and offices.

‘Visitors’ to the centre will consult with Antalis’ packaging specialists, who will then create designs and solutions which will be emailed to the customer. Samples are then produced and sent for full testing on packing lines in order to make sure they are fit for purpose. Once a solution is found, Antalis will work with clients to implement the packaging into any operation, including online training for packers, if required.

Antalis has already helped with solutions for packing, protecting, storing, dispatching or transporting. ‘We have recently helped a manufacturer of earth-moving equipment re-engineer a pack design for distributing nuts and bolts to sites globally, eliminating the use of plastic, cutting corrosion and reducing pallets used in distribution by 13,000 a year,’ explained packaging technologist Jason Poxon.

‘An online seller of premium craft beers benefited from a new pack design that cut costs by 50%, reduced damages and improved the customer experience. A gas meter distributor now has an all-corrugated suspension pack design created by us, to hold the meter in place to prevent damage during transit and give good presentation on arrival. And finally a new pack was designed for a limited edition beauty box. The solution was cost-effective, protected the precious cargo and created the wow factor for customers – just some of the many examples of real solutions already created for clients where we have reduced costs, improved efficiency, optimised product protection and improved logistical and warehouse performances.’
